Right to Information Act, 2005

The Right to Information Act, 2005 (RTI Act, 2005) is an Act enacted in India to ensure transparency and accountability in the functioning of public authorities. Under this Act, every Indian citizen has the right to request and receive information held by government offices within a stipulated time frame.

Records, orders, reports, project details, expenditure statements, and other documents can be requested under this Act from public authorities, including Grama Panchayats, Block Panchayats, District Panchayats, government departments, and Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs).

Upon receiving an RTI application, the Public Information Officer (PIO) is generally required to furnish the information within 30 days.
