Geography of the Panchayat
Meenachil is a grama panchayat comprising Meenachil and Poovarany villages within Lalam Block of Meenachil Taluk in Kottayam district. Covering an area of 15.49 sq. km., the panchayat is divided into 14 wards.
Boundaries:
North: Pala Municipality, Bharananganam, and Thidanad Grama Panchayats
South: Elikkulam and Akalakunnam Grama Panchayats
East: Thidanad and Bharananganam Grama Panchayats
West: Pala Municipality, Mutholy, and Kozhuvanal Grama Panchayats
Geographical Coordinates & Demographics:
Location: Situated between East Longitudes 76°41'14.328" E and 76°45'23.899" E, and North Latitudes 9°38'43.426" N and 9°42'35.201" N.
Population: Total population is 16,100 (8,103 males and 7,997 females).
Natural Features & Topography:
The Meenachil River flows through the northern part of the grama panchayat.
The Meenachil Thodu (stream) flowing along the southern part serves as a natural boundary separating it from Kozhuvanal and Mutholy Grama Panchayats.
On the east, the hilly terrains of Chathamkulam, Kanjirathanam, and Vattappara separate it from Thidanad and Elikkulam Grama Panchayats.
On the west, the Palakkad hill area borders and separates this grama panchayat from Pala Municipality.
